Internships
Our Erasmus+ internships are the perfect way for students to get an in-depth of experience of the Glasgow culture. Our friendly and welcoming host employers and host families ensuring a warm welcome and a great learning experience. In addition to our own support for interns, the friendly people of Glasgow provide home from home and great place to grow.
European internships have been at the heart of our experience since 2010, first with the Leonardo da Vinci Programme and then Erasmus+. Since Brexit has changed the landscape for internships, we have helped our partners navigate the new visa landscape, managing the certificate of sponsorship paperwork, where needed, answering questions and also also identifying internship opportunities that only require a Standard Visitor Visa – or no visa.
“My host employer was amazing. Really nice, helpful staff. Actually is the best I have ever work with.”
Matej, Student, Slovenia
What kind of internships can Discover Glasgow organise?
With the funding from the 2021-27 Erasmus+ programme, we can offer at least the following types of placements for up to seven weeks.
- cafes – cooks, bakery, service
- tourism – visitor attractions
- business administration and marketing
- retail sales
- wood work
- social care
- gardening
- activities with children and young people

In addition, we can offer cultural activity programmes and study visits, which can be added to internships or done separately. .
All these activities are open to anyone, with any funding, and EU and EEA passport holders can do these internships without needing to apply for a visa. Non-EEA passport holders can use a Standard Visitor Visa for these activities.
If you happen to have 2020 Erasmus+ funding left and your students have EEA passports, then we can also do longer placements, including ones at hotels, IT support, fine dining restaurants, and more. Those require a longer visa process.
